 Conscious RHYTHM
Connecting and Transforming
through RHYTHM

"Everything in the universe has a rhythm,
everything dances. "  - Maya Angelou

Conscious RHYTHM is my individual approach to facilitating intrapersonal and interpersonal connectivity  and transformation through drumming and rhythm. I celebrate and honour each person's unique rhythm, so that we may all connect and interact creatively with others, in resonance, balance and oneness.

Conscious RHYTHM embraces four key elements:

Mindfulness
The Art of Being in the Present Moment and connecting with the breath.  Focusing your attention on the present moment and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in happiness.  Prof. Emeritus Jon Kabat-Zinn, demonstrates that practicing mindfulness can bring improvements in both physical and psychological symptoms, as well as positive changes in health attitudes and behaviours.
By becoming mindful of our breathing,  we are more able connect with ourselves.
By applying this principle at the beginning and end of my sessions, it helps my clients to breathe deeply into their bodies, to tune in with themselves, and to feel present. With each breath we find ourselves going deeper into quietness, and start to listen to the Self.

Somatic Movement
The
Art of Moving your Body and Shifting its Blockages, in an expression of your own unique rhythm. In living beings, emotional trauma can become embodied in the form of blockages and rigidities. By using Somatic Movement we not only shift these blockages but also express our rhythmic uniqueness. A somatic movement  is one which is performed while focusing on its internal experience rather than its external appearance or result. Inspired by these principles, I use simple somatic movement to release and express rhythm. This movement helps foster a greater self-awareness and presence in one's body.

Once a shift is experienced, a safe container is created for expressing  feelings of  separation, isolation, pain, trauma, grief and loss.  In this space it is beneficial to move and shift in a gentle and mindful way. Using somatic movement allows the rhythm to gently release what has come up, and the therapeutic process to keep moving forward.

Conscious Drumming
The Art of Connecting with your Internal Drum - our heartbeat -  and expressing your own unique rhythm. It is also the art of connecting with the beat of others, and contributing to the Collective Consciousness.

In the words of Schwarcz,  Transformational Coach and Psychotherapist:  “Drumming Therapy is a method of utilizing the natural power of rhythm and sound and applying it to an individual or group for the purpose of healing."

A truly holistic healing approach, group drumming breaks down social barriers, promotes freedom of expression, non-verbal communication, unity and cooperation. Conscious Drumming awakens dormant emotions and unexplainable feelings of excitement, peace, and ecstasy. It can elevate the mood, decrease anxiety, and stress, and it boosts immune system functioning and benefits physical health.”

Spiritual Connectivity
The Art of Taking Time to Listen to Others and to be in a Non-Judgmental and
Open-Hearted place with them.
In other words It means honouring the art of listening and holding space for someone else with empathy and compassion. It means taking time to listen, and hear, without comment. It means practicing having an open heart, and being  there for someone else.

Blando (2006) highlights that spirituality is focused on connection with others and contains three main components:

                                                                     * connection to someone or something beyond the self,
                                                                     * a sense of compassion for others,
                                                                     * and the desire to contribute to their good.
In a Conscious Drumming circle, when we honour our rhythm, we become open to connecting with others in the circle, and together with them, creating a unified sound that impacts, inspires and transforms.

The psychosocial benefits of
Conscious Drumming:

  • Increasing energy
  • Creating inspiration
  • Facilitating a cathartic emotional release
  • De-stressing and relaxing
  • Inculcating inner peace
  • Facilitating  self-discovery
  • Developing self-esteem
  • Opening the lines of communication
  • Promoting group and community awareness

The power of finding your own unique RHYTHM:

Finding and acknowledging your own unique rhythm can transform your life and connect you with neglected or forgotten aspects of yourself, your body and your emotions.

Sitting in a Conscious RHYTHM therapeutic drumming circle helps everyone to feel safe. Safe to participate and celebrate their own diversity, to find their own rhythm, and to connect with each other by creating the space to really listen and feel the beauty and uniqueness of each individual.  At the same time each participant becomes aware of the rhythmical oneness that is being shared by the group. What is more,  you do not even need to be an expert. You just need to open yourself to experiencing your own rhythm.

As you do this and move into your body, you become one with the rhythm of the drum, and begin to heal and transform.
